We collaborated with Helsinki University who using our cameras, collected a large dataset of thermal images of various European animals and developed a large parameter pure-thermal AI model for unbeatable animal recognition in total darkness.

This Lynx was automaticalled detected and recognised as a Lynx at a site close to Lammi Biological Station from Helsinki University, Finland.

For security purposes, you could own the night and no one could even see the camera.

We wrote the interface software from the USB connection onwards.

Sees wolves as wolves

Thermal wolves images collected by us were added to Helsinki’s model

  • Knows wolves from sheep

Using a solar powered deployment, we collected thermal images from a wolf pack for almost a year. These images were added to the dataset trained by Helsinki University. The result… the system can tell wolves from sheep.

Long distance detection

These wolves were detected at this distance.

  • Way further than with PIR sensors

Our system first detects motion with the thermal images, then it instantly turns on AI recognition. Thermal images are very stable and motion detection can be masked to detect motion at great distances, such as these wolves detected in the fields. This saves power, then AI recognition kicks in and the model is capable enough to recognise wolves as wolves as in this image (Real annotations using the model).

Ultra low light

  • Whopping 4 micron pixels

This sophisticated visible light sensor has some of the largest pixels in the business. We couldn’t find a sensor with larger pixels. At 4 microns, this is twice the size of another low light module, the Sony starvis imx678 sensor at 2 microns. The module supports h265 video compression and high dynamic range. In particular, the hardware video compression is what allows us to both record 24/7 at full HD as well as live viewing at this resolution.

Our engineering partner Iconiq 3D developed a flexible enclosure with a ball joint mount (Also for our thermal module) for optimum positioning.

Both our thermal and visible modules provide event triggering as well as 24/7 recording and live viewing with audio, limited only by battery life.
